About the Name

The project is officially called Aether Panel, but internally we use the codename SkyPanel. Both names refer to the same project.

You may see references to both names in the code, documentation, and repositories. There is no functional difference—they are simply two ways to refer to the same panel. Giving credit matters: this is an open source project and a fork of PufferPanel.

Acknowledgments and credits

Aether Panel would not exist without PufferPanel. This project is a fork, and we want to publicly thank the PufferPanel team and community for the work that spurred ours.

  • If in the future the fork evolves so much that it loses PufferPanel's identity (changes that fully unlink us), Aether Panel could be considered independent, but credit and thanks to PufferPanel will always remain: it was what spurred us.
  • We do not seek to make a profit from this project. If any revenue is ever generated, it will be reinvested for the benefit of everyone (servers, documentation, community).
  • We aim to maintain compatibility with PufferPanel when possible, so that the community and migrations remain viable.

Is Aether Panel a fork?

Yes, Aether Panel is a fork of PufferPanel, but with a completely different and improved approach. We have taken a solid foundation and transformed it into something unique.

Why not create it from scratch?

We chose to fork instead of creating from scratch for several strategic reasons:

Fork Reasons
  • Solid Foundation: PufferPanel already had a robust and functional architecture that we could improve instead of reinventing
  • Faster Development: By starting from an existing base, we can focus on improvements and new features instead of rebuilding the basics
  • Active Community: We can build on an existing community and listen to their real needs
  • Simplified Installation: We receive donations to maintain installation and template servers, allowing us to offer verified and secure installations
  • Enhanced Security: We review all updates and templates to ensure they do not contain malicious code
  • Different Approach: We want to create a panel that listens to the community, not one that sells premium extensions like other open source panels
  • Continuous Improvements: We can implement the features the community really needs, without commercial restrictions

Aether Panel is not just a fork with another name. It is an evolution that prioritizes community, transparency, and complete functionality without hidden payments.
